In a groundbreaking move, AEON Mall (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. has injected a staggering US$ 706 million into the development of three supermarkets across Cambodia as of 2023. The strategic investment was a focal point of discussion during a working meeting held on February 1, 2024, between HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and first Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Mr. TSUBOYA MASAYUKI, Managing Director of Aeon Mall.
The purpose of this significant meeting was to seek guidance from the Deputy Prime Minister on Aeon Mall's ambitious investment initiatives in Cambodia. Notably, the company had previously committed the same substantial amount to construct three supermarkets in the region.
Among these, Aeon Mall 1, situated on Samdech Sothearos Street in Chamkar Mon district, has taken a bold step by expanding its ground floor and adding 30 additional stalls. This strategic move aims to cater to growing needs and entice new businesses into its vibrant retail space.
The second branch of Aeon Mall, located in Sen Sok district and inaugurated in May 2018 with an investment exceeding US$120 million, continues to thrive as a retail hub. The third project, an investment totalling about US$290 million, surpasses its predecessors in size and grandeur. Located in the Meanchey district, this mall opened its doors in April 2023, marking another milestone for AEON Mall (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.
Excitingly, AEON is actively exploring the possibility of a fourth Aeon Mall, contemplating its location in the upper district of Phnom Penh. However, the venture is currently in the early stages of study and discussion, with details such as the exact investment amount and location yet to be determined.
A project review officer from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has confirmed the ongoing deliberations with AEON for this potential expansion, emphasizing the importance of prudent consideration.
It is crucial to note that AEON Mall (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. operates as a subsidiary of AEON Mall Co., Ltd., a venerable company founded in 1911 in Chiba, Japan. With an extensive presence, AEON Mall boasts a total of 203 supermarkets spanning 14 different countries worldwide.
