In a recent development, ASEAN expressed admiration for Cambodia's significant progress in both education and sports sectors. H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, highlighted this commendation during the conclusion of the ASEAN-Japan workshop held in Phnom Penh on Feb. 22.
The workshop, supported by Japan's Sport for Tomorrow initiative, saw active participation from educational officials representing ASEAN member states. Over the course of four days, representatives from Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, and Vietnam came together to discuss Promoting Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) and Sports for Persons with Disabilities (SPD) FY 2023.
Secretary of State Vath Chamroeun underscored the workshop's significance in fostering physical and mental well-being among students across educational institutions. He emphasized the pivotal role of such initiatives in enhancing relationships and cooperation within ASEAN.
Furthermore, Vath Chamroeun articulated the workshop's alignment with ASEAN-Japan objectives, particularly in human resources development within the realms of physical education and sports. Emphasizing the correlation between health and economic prosperity, he highlighted the workshop's aim to bolster ASEAN's workforce and regional economic development.

The workshop, held from Feb. 19 to 22, was a collaborative effort between Cambodia's National Institute of Physical Education and Sports and Japan's Nippon Sport Science University.
