In a significant move towards bolstering diplomatic relations, Cambodia and Uganda have announced their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation disclosed this promising development, indicating a pivotal step in fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the two nations.
Amidst a cordial exchange between H.E. Chum Sounry, representing Cambodia, and visiting dignitary H.E. Okello Henry Oryem, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uganda, discussions centered on amplifying ties across various sectors. Emphasizing the importance of nurturing these relations, both sides deliberated on the prospect of signing crucial bilateral agreements, including a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Consultations.
During the deliberations, both diplomats underscored the significance of enhancing cooperation in pivotal areas such as trade, investment, and tourism. The commitment to facilitating direct engagement between the Chamber of Commerce of both nations signals a proactive approach towards fostering economic synergy and promoting bilateral trade relations.
In addition to bilateral cooperation, the meeting provided a platform for discussions on collaborative efforts at the international level. This exchange underscores the shared commitment of Cambodia and Uganda towards addressing global challenges and advancing common interests on the world stage.
Expressing gratitude, H.E. Chum Sounry commended Uganda's recent successful hosting of the 3rd G77 Summit and the 19th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). As a staunch supporter of NAM and its principles, Cambodia pledged unwavering support to Uganda in its capacity as the Chair of NAM from 2024 to 2027, highlighting the solidarity between the two nations.
Uganda, situated in East Africa, shares borders with Kenya, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania. With a population of approximately 49.6 million, Uganda boasts a diverse cultural landscape and a burgeoning economy. Its strategic location within the African Great Lakes region positions it as a key player in regional affairs.
