Cambodia Champions Inclusion of IFD Agreement into WTO Programme

Cambodia's Commerce Minister, Cham Nimul, advocated for the integration of the Investment Facilitation for Development (IFD) agreement into the World Trade Organization (WTO) program during the 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) in Abu Dhabi.

In a bid to enhance the investment climate, Nimul led a delegation to MC13, emphasizing the benefits of amalgamating IFD into the WTO framework.

Nimul underscored the significance of collaboration among member states, including Cambodia, to bolster the investment environment, aligning with the IFD's objectives.

Addressing a high-level ministerial conference, Nimul highlighted the necessity of extending trade support to the least developed nations, showcasing Cambodia's experiences and offering insights for future success.

During discussions with Helene Budliger Artieda, Director of SECO and Switzerland's Ambassador, Nimul explored avenues to fortify economic ties between Switzerland and Cambodia, fostering bilateral cooperation.

Nimul's participation in the launch of the WTO-ITC Women Exporters in the Digital Economy Fund (WEIDE) underlined Cambodia's commitment to promoting women's entrepreneurship and its pivotal role in global trade.

The collaboration with the WTO and ITC underscores Cambodia's dedication to supporting small businesses in developing countries, aligning with the UN's mission for trade promotion and export development.

Cambodia's proactive stance at MC13 reflects its commitment to fostering a conducive investment climate, advocating for inclusive trade practices, and empowering women entrepreneurs globally. With efforts to integrate IFD into the WTO program, Cambodia exemplifies leadership in promoting sustainable economic growth and development on the global stage.
