Cambodian Prime Minister Encourages Self-Reliance for Sustainable Growth at Social Affairs Meeting

In a speech delivered at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation's annual meeting, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet underscored the importance of self-reliance for achieving long-term economic sustainability. Emphasizing the nation's impressive progress in poverty reduction, Prime Minister Hun Manet noted the decrease from 50% in 1997 to 17% currently, while acknowledging the temporary setback caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He commended the government's proactive response to the pandemic through targeted economic stimulus measures designed to bolster national stability. He elaborated on a two-pronged approach that focused on mitigating the pandemic's impact while simultaneously implementing solutions to address economic challenges and maintain macroeconomic stability.

Recognizing the inextricable link between a thriving economy and the well-being of citizens, Prime Minister Hun Manet stated, "Macroeconomic stability cannot exist without improved lives for the people." He reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to creating opportunities and fostering self-reliance, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Looking towards the future, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his resolve to further refine the nation's social protection system, ensuring it delivers targeted, efficient, and equitable support, aligning with the principle of "leaving no citizen behind."
