Cambodia's Vision for Prosperity: PM Hun Manet Addresses Global Crisis

In a significant address, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, highlighted the pressing global crisis impacting nations worldwide, emphasizing the need for Cambodia to address these challenges to realize the vision set by the former Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen. The ambitious goal is to transform Cambodia into a high middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 2023 work review meeting and the 2024 work direction of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation, on February 6, 2024, Hun Manet stressed the shared struggles faced by countries globally. Geopolitical conflicts, superpowers, wars, climate change, and infectious diseases have all left an indelible impact. The vulnerabilities, including drug use, human trafficking, old age, disability, domestic violence, and child abuse, demand the attention of the Royal Government.

Hun Manet underscored the commitment of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly under the leadership of the Cambodian People's Party to implement a centralized, effective, and sustainable social protection system. The focus remains on addressing the concerns of vulnerable groups, ensuring that no citizen is left behind. The government intervention extends to supporting poor families and vulnerable groups, aligning with the overarching goal of improving lives and well-being.

Expressing the collective dream of Cambodians, Hun Manet outlined the government's dedication to fostering prosperity by promoting growth, reducing poverty, and enhancing the overall quality of life for the people. The policies set forth aim to create a more robust and affluent nation.

Highlighting the historical context, the Prime Minister referenced the win-win policy introduced by former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen. This policy effectively ended the civil war, ushered in an era of peace, and forged national unity. The resultant conducive environment paved the way for implementing transformative strategies like the Triangle Women's Strategy and the Pentagon Strategy.

Closing his address on a positive note, Hun Manet celebrated the significant progress made by Cambodia. The introduction of win-win policies saw a remarkable reduction in poverty from over 50 percent in 1997 to an impressive 17 percent by 2024. This remarkable achievement underscores Cambodia's resilience and commitment to overcoming challenges and achieving prosperity for its citizens.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Hun Manet's address echoes Cambodia's determination to navigate the global crisis, prioritize social well-being, and work steadfastly towards the envisioned high-income status by 2050. The nation remains resolute in its commitment to inclusive growth and prosperity for all.
