Phnom Penh's Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport embarks on a pioneering initiative to revolutionize secondary education through digital means. Aimed at elevating the standard of model schools, the campaign introduces cutting-edge digital education methodologies to selected secondary schools, with plans for nationwide expansion.

The Ministry recently inaugurated the campaign at Hun Sen Borey 100 Khnang High School, led by Secretary of State Oum Romney. Notable attendees included representatives from the Centre for Digital and Distance Education (CDDE), underscoring the government's commitment to modernizing education.

The program's core objective is to enrich student achievement by fostering comprehensive digital learning environments. By providing access to digital resources, students can now engage in independent and collaborative learning, tailored to their individual pace and preferences.

In a statement on February 21, the Ministry emphasized the integration of innovative teaching methods. By leveraging digital platforms, educators gain more effective teaching opportunities while offering targeted support, particularly to students with different learning speeds.

Ministry spokesperson Khuon Vicheka outlined the "Model School Standard," encompassing key areas such as academic outcomes and community involvement. The initiative seeks to elevate teaching methodologies through digital education, promoting active learning and knowledge application.

The campaign's rollout begins in Phnom Penh before extending to provincial high schools. Schools involved will provide comprehensive training in digital education methods, focusing on practical application and constructivism theory.

Kong Somneang, head of the Federation of Education Services in Cambodia, hailed the Ministry's focus on online education. By empowering students to access educational resources independently, the initiative aims to bridge gaps in educational delivery and enhance learning outcomes.  

While emphasizing the importance of digital education, Somneang cautioned against overlooking the necessity of digital literacy among school leaders and staff. Without adequate understanding and support, schools may struggle to effectively implement online learning systems.
