Police Crackdown Nets 215 Suspects in Drug Offenses

The National Police Force, under the Ministry of Interior, executed a widespread operation resulting in the arrest of 215 individuals connected to drug-related offenses across Cambodia. From February 12 to February 18, law enforcement agencies, operating at various levels including the General Commission, Commission, Inspectorate, and Administrative Police Stations, orchestrated a targeted sweep to curb drug trafficking activities.

Deputy Spokesman Touch Sokhak, representing the Ministry of Interior, disclosed that the apprehended suspects were involved in 122 separate drug cases, marking a slight reduction compared to the previous week's figures. In the preceding week, authorities detained 294 individuals implicated in 133 drug-related incidents, reflecting the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat narcotics trafficking.

Touch Sokhak emphasized that the battle against illicit drugs remains a focal point among the six strategic priorities outlined by Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Since the commencement of the seventh legislative term, efforts have been intensified in line with the overarching objective of ensuring the safety and security of villages, communes, and Sangkats, echoing the directives of Prime Minister Dr. Hun Manet.

Throughout January, the National Police intensified its crackdown on drug-related activities, culminating in the resolution of 543 cases and the apprehension of 1,278 individuals. This relentless pursuit of justice underscores the government's steadfast commitment to upholding law and order and safeguarding the well-being of Cambodian citizens.

The concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with governmental bodies and community stakeholders, underscore a holistic approach to combating the drug menace. By addressing the root causes of substance abuse and fostering socio-economic opportunities, authorities aim to foster a safer and more prosperous future for all citizens.

The recent arrests signify a milestone in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and abuse. However, stakeholders acknowledge that sustained vigilance and collaborative action are imperative to eradicate the scourge of narcotics from Cambodian communities entirely. Through continued cooperation and unwavering determination, the nation stands poised to achieve its vision of a drug-free society.

The recent crackdown by the National Police Force underscores the government's resolute stance against drug-related crimes. With strategic initiatives guided by national leadership, Cambodia is poised to overcome the challenges posed by narcotics trafficking and create a safer, more prosperous environment for its citizens.
