In a resounding call for environmental stewardship, King Norodom Sihamoni rallied citizens to uphold their responsibility to preserve a pristine environment during the National Clean City Day ceremony in Phnom Penh.
With over 2,000 cleaning workers and garbage collectors in attendance, the King emphasized the pivotal role of cleanliness in attracting both national and international tourists, underscoring the importance of a spotless image for the Kingdom.
"Join with high responsibility," urged the King, emphasizing the significance of maintaining clean cities and fostering hospitality to elevate Cambodia as a premier tourism destination.
Amidst the festivities at Koh Norea, Chbar Ampov district, where the event unfolded, the King generously distributed gifts to commend the dedication of participating workers.
Acknowledging Prime Minister Hun Manet's commitment to continuing the legacy of progress set by former Prime Minister Hun Sen, King Sihamoni applauded efforts to steer both urban and rural areas towards peace and development.
Furthermore, he commended Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng for his contributions to the city's beautification and alignment with national development goals.
Governor Sreng, in turn, updated the King on strides in infrastructure management and sanitation maintenance, crucial for cultivating a clean and vibrant urban landscape.
Expressing gratitude for His Majesty's tangible support on National Clean City Day, Sreng highlighted the pivotal role of the monarchy in addressing the challenges faced by cleaning workers and staff.
Since July 1, 2021, three new cleaning companies have bolstered garbage collection efforts in Phnom Penh, significantly enhancing efficiency by handling an average of 3,700 tonnes of solid waste daily.
This marked improvement has been instrumental in keeping the city pristine, particularly during major government events like the ASEAN Summit and the SEA Games.
The success of these initiatives underscores Cambodia's commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation, positioning the nation as a beacon of progress on the global stage.
