Senate Election Campaign Kicks Off Nationwide

The much-anticipated two-week-long campaign for the 5th Senate Election is set to commence on Feb. 10, spanning the entirety of the country until Feb. 23.

This morning, the National Election Committee (NEC), led by member H.E. Yich Samithy, convened at its headquarters for a crucial dissemination meeting with various stakeholders, outlining essential guidelines and procedures for the upcoming electoral campaign.

During the meeting, paramount importance was placed on adhering to the rigorous standards set forth by the election law, emphasizing compliance with regulations and procedures. Special attention was given to directives regarding the conduct of the election campaign, ensuring security and order throughout the electoral process.

A notable 11,747 electors are slated to participate in the Senate election for the fifth legislative term scheduled for Feb. 25, 2024. Among these electors are 125 members of the National Assembly, including 17 females, and 11,622 commune/Sangkat councilors, with 2,568 being female representatives, reflecting a diverse and inclusive electoral landscape.

The upcoming Senate election will witness the active participation of four prominent political parties vying for seats in the legislative body. The contesting parties include the stalwart Cambodian People's Party (CPP), the Khmer Will Party, the FUNCINPEC Party, and the National Power Party, each presenting their distinct visions and agendas to the electorate.

With the electoral campaign officially underway, stakeholders and electoral bodies remain committed to upholding the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability throughout the electoral process. Stringent measures are being implemented to safeguard the integrity of the election, ensuring a level playing field for all participating parties and candidates.
