First Tripartite Meeting Addresses Rural Challenges

In a landmark event, the Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Water Resources and Meteorology, and Rural Development convened for their inaugural tripartite meeting. Aimed at dissecting shared concerns and devising solutions for rural communities, this gathering marks a pivotal step towards holistic rural development.

The session, inaugurated on May 6, 2024, at the Ministry of Agriculture, saw the active participation of key figures, including Mr. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries; Mr. Tho Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology; and Mr. Chhay Rithi Sen, Minister of Rural Development.

Emphasizing the significance of ongoing collaboration, Minister Dith Tina affirmed that this inaugural meeting signifies a recurrent commitment. The ministries pledge to convene every quarter, rotating venues to optimize cooperation and efficacy in addressing rural challenges.

"Given the interconnectedness of agriculture and rural economies, collaboration among our ministries is paramount," remarked Minister Tina. "With agriculture heavily reliant on water resources, a unified strategy is imperative for fostering rural development."

Under the auspices of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly, the government has launched the Pentagon Strategy's inaugural phase. Geared towards ameliorating farmer predicaments and propelling agricultural development, this initiative underscores a steadfast commitment to food security and economic prosperity.

Initiated in November 2023 under the distinguished patronage of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia's agricultural policies are entering a new phase of vigor. The 5th and 6th Priority Policy Programs for Agriculture, unveiled during a high-profile event, outline pivotal strategies. These include bolstering agricultural prices, deploying grassroots agricultural officers, and fostering modern agricultural hubs.

As Cambodia charts its course towards agricultural revitalization, sustained momentum is critical. Through collaborative tripartite efforts and a comprehensive policy framework, the nation aims to usher in an era of prosperity for its rural populace. With each ministry playing a distinct yet interconnected role, the stage is set for transformative change in Cambodia's heartland.
